y'know i actually have a ton of time on my hands in which i dont know what to do with. And if i can actually be bothered, i could make a really nice ghillie suit with that net, without cutting those holes bigger... but then again, lack of incentives, and will stays my hand

you guys DO know making a ghillie can take weeks as a civvie right? most mil guys that actually NEED to make a guillie, they have most of a day for most of the week to do their ghillies... this isnt something that i'd recommend you guys doing unless you have the time lol and if you were to make one, any friggin net will do. i've even used scrim nets over a combat shirt with sewn webbing straps on to hold them in place. then add material on top. hell if you even want to get burlap. 'mar bo' is the canto of it. although weed is called 'dai mar' subtle differences but i doubt you'd want weed on your guillie. dentrinity sells a pack of 4 rolls for an OK price. not cheap. but if you're after cheap. and not rolls of burlap but sheets. you can get small sheets from the pet shop near AF. it's a doggy mat. quite a few layers of burlap. already in tan colour. get some frabric dye (might be able to find some at SSP's frabric stores or even try using hair dye but hell i dont know how it'd come out, i just know there's one near momo's shop that sells hair products) the doggy mat will allow you to get more bang for your bucks. since rolls will be quite a bit of waste. why? because the width of it is around 3 inches. what the crap use do you have for that? you use the length of it lol so get a doggy mat and dye it and just a little statement from my previous experience with making ghillies. thick isnt always good. fluff isnt always good either. fake leaves = bad you dont need crap all in the front of your torso. concentrate on back, shoulders, elbow, little on forearms. if you have time, make a hood. p.s. patchy is good.

One quick question, how do you wash your combat shirt when you have sewn your net onto your shirt?

you dont or you dont sew it. or have a detachable system. for my first ghillie i've actually sewn them clips on the base layer of the guillie and on parts of the shirt. (me being me and doing this the first time, sewn the clips on at bad places so when the ghillie is on you, it tugs your shirt all over the place and wasnt comfy) or you make your ghillie like the bike armour you see. concentrate on little parts, then connect it up. and 'them clips' i mean is the ones you use for bags, squeeze the sides and it pops off etc. or do the old skool velcro if you dont want the clips to crack/break apart. but velcro can be a pain. but once it's in place it's good. other than that. you might want to make a light ghillie that you wear on top of whatever shirt you have. like a jumper. but it's only a light layer.

Leave it soaking in water w/ mild detergent and hang dry.
As Jimmy said - it takes time and personally that's it.
And I've got time =)

Oh, and you don't have to make the holes bigger on the fishnet right? I mean.. you can just not use all of the holes.

you actually dont need any specific camo to be your base layer.
hell even an olive coloured long sleeve Tshirt can be your base layer.
if you're going to ghillie it up. why cover up the existing camo with material? lol

OK, heres my two cents.... N.B- still a work in progress, im going to change the design so the jute threat and burlap layer will be a clip on system with a method i'm going to figure out......it's also too light for Mt.Davis (next door for me ) Firstly, seen on my assault vest thingy, Top view and Ghillie hat!!! Another view,

osome stuff. great progess chowiez... although... looks a little thick. and little to flowing... although easy to rough up. try tieing the threads on upside down... as then when they fall the right way... it may add a little randomness to the flow. FC meh... tie it to a taxi... and chase after it ! ;D

the burlap is supposed to be stripped. restranded and put back on the cut rolls of the stuff is not the best solution hence sheets of burlap is better because you dont have to worry about the wasted widths. and base colour is very important guys you want the base to blend in as the background of the ghillie. not the ghillie as the wall to your background not to mention the weight in the end and the fact that the moment you move a little... you'll end up standing out more because what is that busy out in the wild that would move?

heres a good example of modular ghillie www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGC29kCspTwalthough not constuction... one could imagine the straps that hold front to back could be a good idea.. pending how far u go. FC

beginings of my gun ghillie, long rectangular piece of scrim for the main body with the edges shredded a bit and a smaller square piece to cover the scope. next thing to add will be wool/burlap when i can be assed.

Should I add something to reinforce places like the knees and chest? so that nothing wears out and stuff...

you not use knee pads? don't think i've ever had a knee wear out anyways... had a few crutches rip... and of cause colour fading... but thats about it. but 1 or 2 knee pads... always handy in rough terrain. FC

I guess I should try :3
Oh I just got what the modular ghille video was about... At first I thought it was someone wearing a ghille suit... but then the burlap etc is already supposed to attached to the clothing!
And... any ideas on how I'll attach natural vegetation? Because..s the net I'm using has really small holes, and I don't wanna cut the holes bigger because the net is pretty thin..
