Ok, so switching the idea to ugrading my M4 instead (a more logical move methinks, I'll get more use out of it)...
A King Arms CA SV + Outter barrel kit is something like 1300-1500 ish right?
That leaves 1400-1200 of my budget left to consider options...
If I go OD then I suppose I might as well get a new OD large stock too...flashlight/laser (both?) maybe...hurricane scope, too pricey maybe...um...inner barrel, eh, not sure....
I'm not looking to over do it because my M4 is really a middle-slightly long ranged weapon, but mostly middle; a tactical loadout rather then sharpshooter so my current power and firing rate is probably more then fine already.
As usual, I'm looking for advice/suggestions/input from you guys.

Nah, it's just that solid snake's thing in MGS4 is OD M4.

Indeed, btw guys, just to add another idea to my planning thread...
...how far could my (for example) 3500-ish budget get me with a STAR M249 option?
I mean firstly, the obvious question, what the cheapest I can get (a new) one?

if you do want the 249 same as Big al then yea star could get you it, however the problem with star is that there gearbox are plastic whilst CA is metal, in CA usally there 249's are about 5000-6000(-/+) last time I checked which only a few weeks ago.

OK, after consultation over MSN, this is the plan so far...
- STAR M249 - STAR Metal gearbox - Systema (metal) gears - 170 PDI Spring - EG1300 Eagle Force Hammer
(For a total absolute budget of 4000.)
Which should produce a rather nice SAW methinks. ;D

OH HELL YES. for 4,000? that's a pretty good deal right there.
Which M249 you getting, regular large stock, fixed wire stock, or para version?

I'm getting the Para version. And don't worry guys, I've actualy had a good feel for a STAR M249 before; and it's been on my to-do list for months and months, so it's anything but a rash decision. And yeah, having handled the weapon before, I know its not too heavy at all; infact, the STAR 249 is heavier then my M4 (it's all metal, inside and out, so yeah). Besides, I've done a handful of cadet trainning missions in the past with an LSW so I already know I can handle heavier weapons confidentley. And yeah, the budget is 4000 and I should be able to get it on that but only time will tel; thusly, I will venture down the road of purchace and let you guys know whats what when it's done.

Just me, but I'd stay very far away from STAR stuff.
The STAR M249 in particular has a lot of problems - Ironlord happens to be one of the few people I've heard of who has no problems with his - and even then his hop-up seems to be a bit weak.

friend of mine had a star 249, he got to skirmish with it for a total of about 1 hour the rest of the 2 days of skirmishing was spent with the gearbox open trying to fix it that 1 hour was not continuous, it was 10 mins, go to fix, come back later, play for another 10 mins, go back to fix it again etc... star is hit or miss, some people find them great, others crap. i wouldnt be willing to risk 3000+ on it

Well I'm still up for a risk, so I'll let you guys know how it turns out. (although I have been told that the afor mentioned gearbox upgrades should solve a few problems)
