OK, so I made all the internal mods I need to make, save one.
I have a simple issue now, so I'd prefer for this thread to be kept simple and to address this point, cos it's the only question I need answered right now SO please only answer if your really KNOW the answers yourself.
OK, simply put, I'm looking to change my inner barrel.
Currently, my M4 (14.5") has a G&P Inner barrel and Hop-up; I know these, apparently, are fiddly. The question is, firstly...
1) Can I swap to a SIG 550 (520mm) inner barrel?
...and secondly...
2) Will I have to change the hop up unit as well, or is there a 520mm inner barrel that is compatible with the G&P hop-up unit?

i don't think you can swap barrels from differant models hence why they sell diiferent models. there might be the odd expection. but i beleive UN co does custom barrels. any length / model u want. i think... =/ next... FC

im pretty sure you CAN use barrels from different models in different guns, the reason why they label them for different guns is the length. reason why i believe this: aftermarket hopup units for sniper rifles take AEG barrels, they dont specify which model, therefore it makes sense that any AEG barrel will do, and only the length matters as for a 520mm barrel, it wont fit without a silencer to cover it up. an m16 IB is only 509mm long but the G&P hopup should be able to take it without any problems.

lol, yeah thats what I though; I figured as much.
And yeah, I know the M16 is shorter, I specify around 520mm because with my silencer I can cover up to about 540mm SO either I get a SIG 550 barrel or a custom job.
Which way I will go will depend, obviously, on performance and cost.
The custom might be longer, but a 520 barrel presumabley I could get in tightbore THUSLY maybe thats the better option. Of course, I'm assuming that my 1.9j gun won't have a friction problem with such a long tightbore (I'm pretty sure thats true, but I'm just putting it out there anyway jsut in case anyone knows for sure).

Oh dear.
Ok, this is going to get a little techinical.
AEG inner barrels are mostly interchangeable, with the exception of the TM M14 ones and a few other specific models.
However, you must match the cylinder type to the length. For a 520mm IB you'll need a sealed cylinder (type 0).
Also, the diameter of the IB determines it's accuracy, whilst the length determines range.
Length does NOT equal accuracy beyond 350mm or so.
So if you took a M4 IB (363mm IIRC) and replaced it with a IB of same diameter but 520mm long, you'd not get any more accurate. You'd get more range and power, though. (As long as the cylinder matches).
If this is still very confusing, Arclight, then MSN me at plasticvicar(AT)gmail.com

lol, don't worry, I understand all that (ex physics major ); my only question was reguarding the exact nature of compatibility between IBs and AEGs. And yes, sealed piston, I'm pretty sure Tony (my gun moding monkey ) swapped one in already (though to be sure, I'll check); and yes, I will be getting a longer one to increase the range, and I'm looking at tightbore options to increase accuracy (I know tightbores do increase accuracy, I'm just wondering if they increase it enough to be worth the expedeture). So yes, thanks for all the info; if and when I mod the IB on my M4, I'll let you guys know how it goes.
