I'm begining to explore the idea of getting a comm system SO I'm asking around to see whats what.
To begin with I'm just being practical, I need something robust with decent function but not carying some insane price tag.
SO yeah, bring on the info and advise. ;D

Really? I mean, they support all the channels/frequencies required and what not? So about how much do they retail at then?
Are throat mics any good? How much do they cost?

I owned 2 pairs. Both broke after 'rigourous' use under 1 year.
They all said "backwards compatible" with previous motorla models but that never happened. 2-way and that's it.
If you want a radio, best value for money, DON'T get motorola, get the variable frequency ones which Garrick/USSpecOps uses. Cheaper than motorola and a whole range of frequencies to use too.

nods, or stick with motorola models, they got relatively good customer service (after market service), especially once you tell them you go wargaming with em!

Well ok, but I need some details; I need actual model names, details and prices. The devil's in the details.

well that depends on what you call rigourous, noa mine is a motorola T5428, using it with a IASUS pro sniper throat mic for motorola talkabout series, working perfectly, i dont know how good the sound quality is, because i cant hear myself on my own radio but jeff and some others have said its very clear. i got the motorola for $150 brand new from jeff (he got from a guy who sells cheaper than in stores) for that price, im willing to buy another one if it breaks after a year or 2 as for the throat mic.. it retails for around $1000 model name: IASUS noise terminator sniper PRO headset for motorola two way radio you can get cheaper ones for about 300, but sound and build quality will be lower (same manufacturer though) and they dont come with the nice big PTT, but a small dinky one that attaches to your finger

Indeed, I'm thinkin the same thing; I fairly paranoid wwith my equipment, more then most, so "weaker" models would be fine for me most probably. And yeah, after a little looking around today, the price is typicaly in the 200-300 range in a normal shop; throat mics are about 1000, yeah. SO, yeah, not now, but some time in the next few weeks I could well invest in one; thanks guys.

I might be selling off my Motorola radio. Interested? I use a Bowman headset modified with a handmic as a PTT, coiling back to a back-mounted radio. There. Not a bad setup.

Oooo, maybe. Although mainly because I figure as a first-time comm user maybe I should be chekin out second-hand deals rather then new ones. THAT SAID, I'm in no rush to buy anything just yet; might be past new year before I even start to consider actualy spending any cash in this direction. Got other things to check out to (G36C, M16 mags, boots, blah, blah...).
