You may have seen me in the wargame report from 11/03/07 where FC says I have a misfiring sniper rifle, thats not the half of it. I bought this cheap chinese gun for $350 1 month ago. You can see it here. www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=1915I got it because when I used someone elses, I managed to get 3 kills with it in 1 sitting and was never spotted. On the 11th, I got a couple of kills, and Yonathan who helped calibrate it got a few as well. He recommend I buy a new barrel, and I was considering it, when the gun started to fire by itself o.0 . After I cocked it, it would just fire without any pressure on the trigger, at one point, it fired off by itself 4 times in a row after I cocked it only once, which was obscure, and another time when I was checking the sites, it went off before I cocked it and hit someone 60+ meters away downhill in the neck! He was wearing googles, and I felt bad, but I didn't expect the gun to do that! So anyway, I'm not really interested in repairing it, since it's a cheap thing, but it is new, and I don't want to waste it. I'm wondering if it's worth replacing the barrel AND the trigger/cocking mechanism? That would mean the only thing unmodified would be the plastic grip/butt. I guess I could buy some cool supped up parts, but then it wouldn't be the same rifle... So unless I can find a way to repair it or have it replaced cheaply, I might just buy a new sniper rifle, a GOOD one. So the point to this post is, if I get my current sniper rifle repaired, what barrel should I get? And secondly, if I don't bother and buy a new one, any recommendations for decently priced sniper rifles? It doesn't need to be gas, a simple springer is fine since that's all I can afford at any rate. I have a great scope as well, so a guestimated price of the base rifle would be great thanks.

I really hate to be a bummer - but the MP001 is not compatible with any aftermarket parts. At all.
However, if you want, I'll be more than willing to look over it for you and see what's wrong.

Okay then, stuff it, I'll just buy a new sniper rifle, something that can be customised. Any recommendations/brands?

MUST it be gas?

Err, I said it DOESN'T have to be gas, in fact I would prefer not to have a gas rifle, sounds and looks complicated. A simple springer will do.

I'm guessing: Sirrith would say: G-Spec. Spring and reliable. Arclight would say: L96 (Chinese) because it's good and cheap I would say: M700 Gas (Taiwan make for a nice ~1100 HKD) or Tanaka L96 if you want to bust $$$$

Indeed, Chinese L96 kicks ass.
500 rifle + a few hundred for a general tune up for reliability and you got somthing that's better then the APS T96 (a testement from Tony himself); performance wise, it shoots far and strait and it's quieter then a farting baby shrew with an integrated ass silencer.
Plus of couse, it's looks F'IN SEXEEHH!!!

or my APS-2 so i can get a new rifle! Got a pic? The G-Spec looks IDENTICAL to the gun I currently have... Sorry Noa, I can't even bust half a dollar sign, they need to be cheap. AWP? Interesting... Have to say it's looking the best so far, what will I be tuning up if I got one?

I think going for the same gun as Arclight's L96 would be the best choice then And there isn't much choice of add-ons besides internal upgrades. Well besides a scope and bipod, what else would you want?

for the L96, you'll be changing the o-ring, and basic degreasing. Tony'll do that for you for around $500, or was it $300 (i forgot, go ask Arclight).
he'll also suggest you to get a tightbore internal barrel.
you may also want to purchase the scope i have, as its only $400, but if you purchase it where we got our guns, then you'll get a slight discount.
so for a brand new L96 + scope = $900 (+500 for Tony tweaks and upgrades) Total $1400!!
Thats what we call very cheap! o, and make sure you always use .3 bbs... other ones are much too light!!

Thanks Malavern, but I have my scope from my old sniper rifle, which works fine, so being positive, I'm going to say in total it'll cost me 800. I'll buy it next month, where is this mystical tony everyone keeps talking about?

Yeah, I have alot of fun with the sniper rifle, on the 11th I got 2 headshots, both at over 50 meters, it felt so satisfying! OK Goliath, I'll let you have a lookie, we'll sort something out for next week, but if it's not worth salvaging I'll get a L96. Cheers for helping me save some money! If I get a new rifle, I'm probably going to keep it at 1.5j as well, thats really sufficient for me. I won't be running around with it, I'll be hiding in a bush or something, out of sight, out of mind....until I shoot them in the face.

The L96 in real life is not really that heavy... Well, compare to my school 7.62 that is... Anyway, I do recommand you getting the L96 since it is very nice looking rifle and..... it only need some twiking to make it the real BOMB ;D

What does the real L96? 30-06 or .308's?

if you do get the L96, you'd still need to change the o-ring and degrease it, otherwise it jams up. the chinese manufactureres tend to grease it way too much, if you wanna keep the power down, stick a limiter in it or something! alternatively, you can change the spring... but damn is it accurate..
if i remember correctly, the lasty time i test fired that thing, (it uses 6mm), the holes made in the leaves as it ripped past looked more like 8mm rounds!! ^^

What does the real L96? 30-06 or .308's? .308 Lapua. A variety of rounds - AI will let you choose, although the most common ones are .308/7.62NATO, .338 Lapua, 7mm RemMag, and even some in 6.5mmSwiss.

The one I fired is a 7.62 version.... Anywayz... The only thing that make the Chinese L96A1 look different, ( or, not as realistic as it could be ) it is the colours tones of the plastic stock, if you do get it, get yourself a spray can and spray the thing.... and make sure you get a huge scope since small scope look aweful on that gun....*pointing at Arclight's L96* ;D

Ferox - I've had a look inside and tinkered around with several fixes - sorry mate, but the trigger sears are buggered, and the MP001 is not compatible with any aftermarket parts, unless you want me to try and contact some people in the Philipines who can hook you up with some custom MP001 parts.

Alright cheers for trying, just dump the gun but return the scope bag and magazines please, I'll get a replacement much later on and use the scope on my new G36C for the moment.
Thanks again.

That's really up to Goliath now, if he wants to hold on to the spare parts fine, I have no more room in my apartment for it, but I would like the other stuff back.
