what has already been reported: Progress report: Planning and sketching Met up with Yonathan today, we discussed how we could progress and decided on a few key issues. He drew the two pictures above, incredible skillz! He also has all the chemicals and materials to make a cast. 1) This is going to be based on a P90, infact, we're pretty much going to mount a custom casing along the side and top and chop up the grip, redesigning it with resin parts to match the shape required. 2)We;re going to use parts from an M4 ironsight to keep it ambidexdrious. You can see the concept explaination at the bottom of the first picture. 3)The biggest technical issue was going to be the unique magazine which was supposed to be attached to the grip and fed horizontally. We're going to make a dummy clip instead. In essence the gun will load like a normal P90, just that the bridge above the mag will have a tunnel around it to conceal the mag while giving it enough room to take out and put back. You can see it clearly on the 2nd picture above the gun. It's a snug fit, and Yonathan's dad said he could help make the casing, possibly out of aluminium! Next week we'll go shopping. This job will basically mean I'll need to buy an entire P90! Can't wait! now this weekend, progress has been made to the gun itself starting with the lower reciver, i first cut off the handles then clay was applied to begin carving on the gun here's another picture of the clay and the way it fits the clay was then flattened and carved into shape for the custom gun and the flip side done as well i carved out a hole to look like the ejection port and modified the front to stick down more (too much, the final carve will have less of a drop) on top of a block of plaster, i laid out the gun and drew the handles on the plaster. Also marked on the clay to have less of a curve in the back, behind the trigger's handle pictures of the rough cut of the handles secind one: after the rough cut, i decided some things needed changing. for example the gap between the first finger and the second on the firing hand was too large and uncomfortable so that was cut down. Also the block behind the firing grip was carved to look like a magazine that's all i had time for during the weekend in china. here are some pics of the work that has been done up till now i hope to get back to china soon and continue work on this project (and my m2hb)

If you apply the same design proccess for the upper reciver, you'd have a 100% original body which would be marketable.

that's the general idea, i'm going to modify the upper reciver in china this week, leaving wednesday morning and getting back in time for the sunday game. i plan to make the upper reciver bridge over the magazine and look like in the sketch

okay,... i'm posting from china, work on the upper reciver is underway. i have the top all chopped up.. however the magazine is wider than expected, so either the top half will be slightly wider than the bottom, or the bottom has to be made wider to match.... i dont want to add too much weight to the gun so i reccomend making the top wider.. Ben... it's your call... make the top slightly wider than the bottom (5mm) or widen the bottom a little? (add heft to the gun). i really recomend not making it wider and leaving it as it is. i think widening the bottom will make the gun look rather clumsy

Hi Yonathan, sorry was working all day -_-, feel free to use your best judgement, if you feel making the top wider is the best solution, go ahead.

It's a fantastic render for an awesome design, my only critisism is of the fire mode selector; makes the gun look like some kind of wii remote or somthing.

Ben's gun is inspired by the seburo C26a in ghost in a shell anime ben i have a question... the top is really difficult to make a practical aiming device like in my sketch... do you mind if it looks like this? (EDIT: i'm only talking about the carry handle part of the gun, not the whole upper reciver...) with a rail along the top and a red dot sight (i'l buy the parts, a red dot here is only $60(hkd)) i can still make it as in the sketch but the sights would be non adjustable and quite brittle (resin is not a good material for making sights) FC!: i can get you sniper style m16 trigger guard to go on your SPR here for just $8(hkd) do you want the upper reciver to be done in aluminium?

Yes to all Yonathan, you'll give the rail some side plating to make to look like the sketch? I don't see a use for a rail system per say since it will be a CQB weapon and I won't be mounting a scope or such, this SMG relies purely on an ironsight system but whatever you can do within the 'feel' and practicality of the gun, I have no objection, so long as the general shape remains similar.

I think a cheap little reflex sight would look sweeeeet on such a sci-fi design and better for short/ubershort range then iron sights IMO.

I had considered it previously... but conceeded i like trigger guard flat. same with the spr grips... i got to try a G&P SPR grip... and a KA G27 grip... at the same time. Went with the G27 better feel... better look. but thanks for thinking of me... FC

I could do with a sniper-style trigger guard for my MP-16!
And an M4 trigger, if it's not too much to ask?

hey Yonathon,
why not transplant a FAMAS handle part for the sights area... it looks like a FAMAS part anyways..

Back from china now, got the pics uploaded to photobucket, and quite satisfied with the progress firstly i chopped off the top of the upper reciver inserted the magazine before adding clay, to ensure it had room to be loaded/unloaded/reloaded with a scraper and carving tools, flattened out the sides and cut a rough outline lots of work later, the lower [part of the] upper reciver came together really nicely, hiding the magazine so the gun wouldn't look like it had two (the dummy and the real one) i then started working on the carry handle. i bought a rail in a toy market and milled the front rail to double it up as iron sights. similar to the ones on the P90TR. then with blocks of clay raised it above the magazine. the height of the "bridge" over the magazine had to be twice the height of the mag so it could be removed after the mod was finished. Note the use of the chopped piece of ex-upper reciver. that part is not much further back than on the origional reciver i added clay to taper and flatten the carry handle's posts. here the progress to that point is compared to a sketch of what i had in mind and any cuts i had to make to make the rail useable i ditched the whole idea of making the cuts on the side and redesigned the side from my sketch to better reflect the gun from the anime. the idea now is that the rail would be held on by two screws and attachments clamped to the rail while it was not on the gun. also goes towards making [marginally] adjustable sights. that was something i was rather concerned about because it's really difficult to make the railsights parellel with the barrel. i measuread and remeasured everything repeatedly because clay is not rock solid, and bends when you work on it. the lower [part of the] upper reciver's sides also needed more clay since the resin that the final product (pre possible aluminium casting) is rather brittle when thin. most of the upper reciver will consequently be reinforced with fiberglass a picture of the reciver after sime flattening and shaping this is as far as the gun has come untill now. hopefully i can get back to china again soon and finalise the gun. then i can get someone to make a resin cast of the pieces and paint them i hope you like it goliath: i got you the sniper trigger guard but couldn't find any m4 triggers short of buying a complete chinese m4 gearbox

for the second last picture, that's just cos of the camera lens. the gut is a little sleeker than that. however the top is fat... that's cos of the magazine needing room inside there

Incredible Just incredible... ;D At the back of the upper receiver, can we add the same three dots as on the front please? It's supposed to be where the magazine goes, so perhaps push it forward underneath the rail and carry handle please?

lol i've got enough on my hands for the moment, and the battle rifle has a more organic look to it, perhaps it can be made from an FAMAS rifle tho.
hmm... do you want me to make the bottom of the three dots at the rear have a little clip thingy like in the screenshot of the ps2 game?

hmm... do you want me to make the bottom of the three dots at the rear have a little clip thingy like in the screenshot of the ps2 game? Clip thingy? www.jp.playstation.com/scej/title/kokaku_psp/dlkk/wp_motoko.jpg[/img] If we're both looking at the same thing then yes please. I think that's where you're supposed to be able to remove the upper receiver from the 'real' SMG and get into the internals, but having some fake parts and switches couldn't hurt. It's supposed to be a ambidextrious gun, so whatever is on one side should be on the other.
