Recently our main home desktop PC has semi-died and has thusly been replaced by a Mac and thusly said dead PC is free to be my gaming machine post eNecromancy (it''ll likely be months before it's up and running though). And so thusly, before long, I will be able to play the game that I have wanted to for bloody ages. ;D SO maybe I should start poking and talking with people to check out what race/player classing/build I should aim for. Let's see.....I like badass platemail.....big swords/ sword + sheild combo.......hardcore tanking capability..... ....but I like not Orcs.... ...* pondering*...

Yeh, the existing PC has a 2.5Ghz proccesor and 512 ram and a half decent graphics card (I think), so I should be able to get away with NWN2 as is. The only issue is that we recently switched it to vista and so besides compatibility I have to generaly learn how to use it and still need to fix a few bugs.

Oi Vey, tell me about it.
On the flip side though, this machine will virtualy be pure gaming so I suppose the only issue is Vista vs Games, no periphral programs to worry about conflictions. ;D

I played NWN2 on my laptop back when it still had Vista on it, so two mains things i'd like to give as advice. First, when you run the game, right click on the game's shortcut / .exe file, and select from the bottom of the list 'run as adminstrator'. If you double click it, or just select run, the game won't start up properly and will cancel halfway through loading up.
Also, the game recommends 1 gig if your running XP, and 2 gig if your running Vista. I'm not very computer savvy, but some extra ram or turning off the flashy Vista graphics might be worth consideration.
The following is tl;dr
Humans are pretty much the most overpowered race, but kinda boring. Wood elves are not orcs and get an equivalent strength bonus. Dwarves are tough as always.
Classes that can use plate armour; fighter, paladin and cleric. They can all use shields, but only the fighter gets the ability to use tower shields as default. The rest have to invest in a feat to do so. Looking at builds...
Pure Tank:
If you want pure tank, go dwarf / shield dwarf, fighter class, and aim towards dwarven defender prestige class. Long sword and tower shield, full plate and lots of constitution will make you pretty much untouchable by physical attacks. Magic and such can still give problems to this build, but you can get some equipment to help alleviate that problem.
Another option would be pure paladin, aiming towards war priest once you finally have the spell levels, but that will take a long time to really bloom. You could hit war priest levels earlier with pure cleric, but you won't have as much hp, and you'll need to invest in martial weapons proficiency to get your sword.
Big sword / killy:
To kick ass with a big sword, all you really need is loads of strength, then go straight for power attack, cleave, and great cleave (a human fighter can get all three at level 1), and even at low levels you'll wipe out small hordes of guys with ease. After that just get all the weapon specialization feats, power critical types etc.
Only problem with doing that, is that eventually you run out of feats to take, and you'll find that you won't be able to qualify for many of the fighter based prestige classes, so it tends to stagnate late game. You can still go for Neverwinter Nine and kick ass, but it only 5 levels and you can only get it by playing in the single player campaign.
So if you want to go pure hack n slash, you can min max with wood elf, 20 Strength, 13 Dex, 14 Con, power attack, cleave, then Great cleave at 2nd level and your set, with the last 4 points wherever you like. Or if you want something harder, shield dwarf, 18 strength, 13 Dex, 18 Con. If your going to wear plate mail, having dex above 12 is pretty much useless (because the plate armour will hinder any bonuses beyond that), although having 13 dex will let you take the dodge feat and some others to help defence a bit.
You will rip stuff apart with that, but minimal int / wis / cha will end up leaving you socially crippled. If you want that kind of character. Being bad at negotiation just means you get to kill more stuff most of the time, anyway.
Balanced:
If you want a killy character with braincells, then normally you'd want to go high dexterity with two weapons, then move up to duelist prestige class, but that doesn't work so well with two handed swords (which I tried, it was totally awesome, but so many penalties make it hard to kill anything). So instead you could go for weapon master, which requires 13 dex and 13 int minimum in order to get the prerequisite feats.
So for a more balanced character, go human, dwarf or wood elf, 16 str (before racial adjustment), at least 13 dex and 13 int (after racial adjustments. I'd recommend still going power attack, cleave and great cleave first, for some early killy, and then after that just picking the prerequisite feats to get to weapon master.
Exploitable:
If you want something a bit more complicated and exploiting, go human, get 14 for str, dex, con and int, with 12 in wis and cha. take four levels of fighter, investing into the Lore skill, and saving up the rest of your points (as much as your allowed). On your 5th level, take a level of Sorcerer or Bard (I recommend Sorc, with identify as as a 1st level spell, the other one doesn't matter much). From 6th level and onwards, go pure Red Dragon Disciple. Once you've maxed that out, go back to fighter and take any feats you feel like.
End result is monstrous stats and hp, can use all arcane scrolls, wands and staves to cast magic while wearing full plate and holding a tower shield and sword, good fighting abilities and a whole bunch of immunities and strong mental defence. Also you get to pick from a wide range of skills, can cast identify on things if you remove your armour, and can breathe fire on people as an added bonus. No prerequisite feats either, so you can just pick what you like.
/tl;dr
If you view the whole game as numbers, it gets less interesting in the end, so go for whatever you enjoy, but if you want to hax stuff up any of the above will work.

You can tell he's a pro Pure Tank: If you want pure tank, go dwarf / shield dwarf, fighter class, and aim towards dwarven defender prestige class. At this stage it's important to find a good teammate to be your medic who can uber you at regular intervals. Another option would be pure paladin, aiming towards war priest However, you're only allowed to unlock war priest when you have screamed for the 1000th time after killing an NPC "YOU ARE SMOTEN EVIL DOER IN THE NAME OF [insert diety here]. Big sword / killy: To kick ass with a big sword, all you really need is loads of strength, then go straight for power attack, cleave, and great cleave Also get dash and dodge, so you can be a NINJA SWORDSMAN! Only problem with doing that, is that eventually you run out of feats to take, and you'll find that you won't be able to qualify for many of the fighter based prestige classes, so it tends to stagnate late game. And it wasn't stagnate already when you spent the last 30 hours of gameplay doing nothing but diablo style clicking!? So if you want to go pure hack n slash, you can min max with wood elf, 20 Strength, 13 Dex, 14 Con, power attack, cleave, then Great cleave at 2nd level and your set, with the last 4 points wherever you like. Or if you want something harder, shield dwarf, 18 strength, 13 Dex, 18 Con. If your going to wear plate mail, having dex above 12 is pretty much useless (because the plate armour will hinder any bonuses beyond that), although having 13 dex will let you take the dodge feat and some others to help defence a bit. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.......... Balanced: If you want a killy character with braincells, Lies ALL LIES! It's one or the other! So for a more balanced character, go human, dwarf or wood elf, Or find an abandoned drunken love child from all three races, and have THE UBERMENSCH! HAX If you view the whole game as numbers, it gets less interesting in the end, so go for whatever you enjoy, but if you want to hax stuff up any of the above will work. This was all I read, and even then, I skimmed over it.

Yeh, when ever I get into numbers too much in games they can get very dull, I choose to ignore them this time. I'll likely go Human slayerish type; badass armour and blood soaked pointy pointy metal things with shield optional. But it will still be a while before I can play, machines are dominated by work-from-home Mother at the momment. Plus I can barely afford a NWN2 themed pencil at the momment.

My apologies for the excessively long post. Any chance of an estimate? Not really. By default, just assume its a long way off, don't wait or account for my presence in the near future. The only way I can really start playing is if I get my own desktop and thats not happening untill I get myself some actual income.

Well I can't do much in the UK due to completely game destroying lag over the distance. Can't play in HK because my parents are paranoid aobut me fiddling with their router settings, and as such won't give me the password for it (I tried the default user/pass already).
Most likely I won't be realistically able to play until I get my own place, which shouldent be too much longer.
Yeah, that was awesome. Hopefully we'll be able do that again... eventually.

Ok, employment kicks in on the 15th.
So, in a month or two, expect a new PC.
SPEAKING of which, I need an in-house computer nerd to help sort me out as I've no idea what I'm doing when it comes to building a nice shiny custom desktop. ;D
