I'm looking for external computer upgrade suggestions so that I can upgrade my computer to run TF2 normally. My computer cannot play TF2 smoothly and the frames are on .5 second lag spikes. Im currently running on windows vista home premium. Does that affect anything? And it doesnt have space for ANY video cards. Is it better to buy a new computer?

Vista eats up a lot of resources, you need 2GB to run the thing, 1 for Vista and 1 for the rest. Give us your full computer specifications, we'll see what's possible.

wait for the bloody thing to fully load. save to desktop, and copy the entire list from the file onto the forums! easiest way for us to find out for you

if you aren't just gonna junk the whole box what motherboard do you have? might be worth keeping but judging by the integrated GFX probably not should be able to find it out at Start Menu->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Information under System Model. if you're gonna upgrade the gfx card you'll probably need a new powersupply too btw. also get rid of vista if you can find drivers for all your stuff for XP.

if no new pc. then don't waste $ for an upgrade.
tell them its summer and ur current pc is dying. i don't think u're a kid that'll abuse the PC too much during study hours?
seriously don't bother upgrading. won't do u much good.
yea just get a new XP. if u're lucky to get a new pc. tlel them u want XP instead. unless u already have a copy at home. use that.

I have a Nvidia 8600. I Cannot put it into my computer cause of the bloody motherboard! How much do i need to spend to get a new one? also, i dont want to waste me CPU and stuff.
And are you trying to say that you can uninstall vista? That would make me lose all my docs.

not sure about mofo prices atm... better ask one of the others...
but yea you can uninstall Vista... all you need to do is to backup your data somewhere, i.e. a secondary drive, DVD... etc...

IMO, Word 2003 is the best. The 2007 version is hard to navigate and you need to do things one by one.

07 isn't actually harder... they simplified it too much... its like trying to use a mac.. i'm using 07 for my laptop and using 03 on my desktop. i find 03 much better. but if u're using it just for normal word processing. 07 will do the job. but its also bigger and lags slightly. has cool functions but thats about it.
the only downside is when people send u documents in .docx... its a piss off when they do. so i specify i NEED .doc

Building a computer isn't too hard chowiez, there's basically only on socket everything can go in so its not like you can put anything in the wrong place. The motherboard manual should tell you where things go.

If you check the steam forums, there should be some way to set settings lower than the options menu so that you can play, if I remember correctly you can even go to Directx 7.
Btw Vista isn't that bad :/

yes you can change TF into run on DX 7, coz I am doing that to my CSS.
To do that, you have to open up steam, rite click on the game you want, TF2 in this case, then select properties, then select Launch options. it will show you a empty space for command, paste the following in that box: -dxlevel 70 now your TF2 should be running on DX 7, but be warned, some of the fancy effect will be lost and apparently it doesn't work on all games.
For the Lag Spike thing... search on the internet for Changing Rates for CSS/TF2.

WARNING!!! WARNING!!! ENGINE ERROR! ENGINER ERROR!
You graphics hardware must support at least pixel shader version 1.1 to run this game!
ZOMG GG. NO TF2!
